You’ve Got Insurance; Use It!

I have found, throughout the years, patients have the same questions about their dental insurance plans:

• “What dental insurance do I have?”
• “How much will my dental insurance cover?”
• “Is there an amount I am allowed to spend on dental services each year?”
• “Does my dental insurance pay for that?”
• “Is that amount per person?”

At Living Well Dental Group, we strive to help you understand your dental insurance and its benefits. At your initial visit we will contact your insurance carrier and get the details of your dental coverage. With that, we are able to estimate what your insurance carrier will cover on the procedures recommended by the dentist. A treatment plan is then designed, outlining the percentage you will pay for each visit.

Your dental insurance has a maximum benefit amount for you to spend each year so if you have dental insurance and you are not using it; Why not?! The following is a definition from the ADA that really highlights the importance of oral health in many aspects life:

ADA Policy – Definition of Oral Health: Oral health is a functional, structural, aesthetic, physiologic, and psychosocial state of well-being and is essential to an individual’s general health and quality of life.*

Well, in the past fifteen years, I have seen many patients who paid for dental insurance every month but hadn’t visited the dentist in years. As a result, they suffered from bad oral health that required costly dental treatment. It could have been avoided if they had made regular preventative visits to their dentist.

In most cases, dental insurances covers 100% of preventative visits! So why don’t people take advantage of the benefits their dental insurance has to offer?
